Frequently Asked Questions
Please reach us at Whitestoneacu@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Do you accept insurance?
Yes! We are in-network with Blue Cross Blue Shield, United Healthcare, Cigna and TriWest. If you’d like to check your coverage, simply email us your name, date of birth, provider, and Member ID
number, and we’ll verify your benefits for you.
If your insurance provider is out-of-network, don’t worry—we can provide you with a superbill, which you can submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement.
Additionally, you can use your HSA (Health Savings Account) or FSA (Flexible Spending Account) to pay for your treatments, making acupuncture even more accessible.
💡 Many insurance plans now cover acupuncture, especially for pain management, migraines, and post-surgical recovery. It’s always worth checking your benefits!
Does Acupuncture hurt?
Not really! In fact, most patients find acupuncture to be a calming and relaxing experience. The needles we use are extremely thin—about the width of a human hair—and are nothing like the thick hypodermic needles used for injections.
At most, you might feel a mild pinch or a quick sensation upon insertion, especially in more sensitive areas. Many patients describe a warm, tingling, or heavy sensation, which is actually a sign that your body is responding to the treatment. Some even feel an instant release of tension.
For those nervous about needles, we use specialized techniques to ensure a comfortable experience, and many people fall asleep during treatment because acupuncture promotes deep relaxation!
💡Interesting Fact: A study from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) found that over 80% of patients report no significant discomfort during acupuncture, and many feel a deep sense of relaxation.
I Tried Acupuncture Once, and It Didn’t Work—Why?
Acupuncture is not a one-time quick fix—it’s a process, much like physical therapy, exercise, or eating healthy. While some people experience immediate relief, most conditions—especially chronic ones—require multiple treatments for lasting effects.
Here’s why:
Chronic issues take time to heal.
If your condition has been around for months or years, it won’t disappear overnight.
Your body needs time to rebalance.
Acupuncture works by gradually retraining your nervous system, reducing inflammation, and improving circulation.
Each treatment builds upon the last.
Just like strengthening a muscle, acupuncture results accumulate over time.
Our practitioners will create a personalized treatment plan, often recommending 6-12 sessions depending on the severity of your condition. If you don’t notice results right away, don’t get discouraged! Your acupuncturist will adjust the treatment as needed.
💡 Did You Know? A landmark study published in Archives of Internal Medicine found that acupuncture provides long-term relief for chronic pain—even a year after treatments have stopped!
What should I wear to the appointment?
Wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows easy access to your arms, legs, and any areas being treated. For example:
Tops: Short sleeves or tank tops are great if you’re receiving treatment on your arms or shoulders.
Bottoms: Loose-fitting pants or shorts make it easier to access acupuncture points on the legs.
Avoid: Tight jeans, restrictive clothing, or anything difficult to adjust.
If necessary, we provide blankets and draping for privacy and to ensure you remain warm and comfortable.
💡 Pro Tip: If you’re coming in for back, hip, or abdominal treatments, you may be asked to remove certain clothing items, but you will always be appropriately covered to maintain comfort and privacy.
Can you work on kids? Is it safe?
Absolutely! Acupuncture is 100% safe for children and can effectively treat a variety of conditions, such as:
Digestive issues (constipation, colic, acid reflux)
Allergies & asthma
Anxiety, ADHD, and sleep problems
Chronic colds & immune support
Pain relief for injuries or growing pains
For younger children or those hesitant about needles, we use gentle, non-invasive techniques like:
Acupressure (massage-based stimulation of acupuncture points)
Laser acupuncture (light therapy instead of needles)
Micro-needles (extremely fine, painless needles for quick stimulation)
We tailor each treatment to the child’s comfort level, ensuring a gentle, stress-free experience. Many kids actually enjoy acupuncture once they try it!
💡 Fun Fact: Pediatric acupuncture has been used in China for over 1,000 years, and modern research shows that it can significantly reduce pain, stress, and inflammation in children! (World Journal of Pediatrics, 2018)
💡 Did You Know? A study published in Pediatrics Journal (2015) found that children with chronic pain experienced major relief after just four acupuncture sessions, with no serious side effects reported.
